  • Job Summary




    • Performs a variety of cross-functional duties including intravenous (IV) catheter insertions, specimen collection, computer entry, and patient greeting and escort in a patient-focused department.






  • Minimum Qualifications




    • Education/Training




      • High school graduation or equivalent; Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.

    • Experience




      • 1 year related experience preferred.






    •  




    • License/Certification/Registration




      • CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification by the Maryland Board of Nursing. CPR certification required.






    •  




    • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities




      • Basic math skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred. Venipuncture competency and intravenous(IV) catheter competency.








  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities




    • Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADL's) including bathing, dressing, skin care, positioning, ambulation, toileting, and range of motion activities.




    • Assists with environmental services support such as linen management, trash removal, and cleaning patient rooms as needed.




    • Assists with transport of patients, specimens, equipment, and supplies as appropriate. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.




    • Communicates changes in the patient's condition to the Licensed nurse.




    • Completes paperwork; ensures accurate chart notes, logs, and statistical records.




    • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.




    • May be assigned to Sitter/observation duties when it meets the needs of the unit.




    • May participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.




    • Obtains data and accurately documents pertinent patient information.




    • Participates in meetings and on committees and may represent the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.




    • Performs basic procedures, collects specimens, provides respiratory therapy support, performs venipuncture and obtains EKG's




    • Performs intravenous catheter insertions, changes of IV sites and dressings, and routine inspection of sites.




    • Performs other duties as assigned.




    • Provides and documents nutritional support for patients.




    • Reports actual and potential problems concerning patients, families, staff and their departments to the Registered Nurse. Responds to questions from patient, families and significant others in a prompt, courteous, positive manner, referring them to appropriate personnel if necessary.
