Job Summary
- Performs a variety of cross-functional duties including intravenous (IV) catheter insertions, specimen collection, computer entry, and patient greeting and escort in a patient-focused department.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education/Training
  - High school graduation or equivalent; Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.
- Experience
  - 1 year related experience preferred.
- License/Certification/Registration
  - CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification by the Maryland Board of Nursing. CPR certification required.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  - Basic math skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred. Venipuncture competency and intravenous(IV) catheter competency.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADL's) including bathing, dressing, skin care, positioning, ambulation, toileting, and range of motion activities.
- Assists with environmental services support such as linen management, trash removal, and cleaning patient rooms as needed.
- Assists with transport of patients, specimens, equipment, and supplies as appropriate. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Communicates changes in the patient's condition to the Licensed nurse.
- Completes paperwork; ensures accurate chart notes, logs, and statistical records.
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- May be assigned to Sitter/observation duties when it meets the needs of the unit.
- May participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
- Obtains data and accurately documents pertinent patient information.
- Participates in meetings and on committees and may represent the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.
- Performs basic procedures, collects specimens, provides respiratory therapy support, performs venipuncture and obtains EKG's
- Performs intravenous catheter insertions, changes of IV sites and dressings, and routine inspection of sites.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Provides and documents nutritional support for patients.
- Reports actual and potential problems concerning patients, families, staff and their departments to the Registered Nurse. Responds to questions from patient, families and significant others in a prompt, courteous, positive manner, referring them to appropriate personnel if necessary.
